Meet Brooke Halling, RCC: A Teacher & Counsellor for Teens & Adults in Victoria & Online BC

If you or your teen are dealing with anxiety, having a hard time with friendships, or trying to make sense of ADHD or autism, counselling with Brooke will give you practical tools that you can actually use the next day at school or work.

Brooke is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) at Strength in Heart Counselling. She sees clients aged 13 and up at our Victoria office on Fort Street and online across BC. She is currently accepting new clients and offers free 20 minute virtual consultations.

From the classroom to the counselling room

Before she became a counsellor, Brooke worked as a teacher in both elementary and high schools. She supported young people facing a wide range of learning, social, emotional and behavioural needs, and saw how those challenges spill into grades, friendships, family life and how a student sees themselves.

That experience is a big part of why she especially enjoys working with adolescents and young adults. Those years bring changes in identity, relationships, school, work and independence, often all at once. Brooke moved into counselling so she could support people one-on-one and go deeper than a school setting allows.

Practical tools, built together

Brooke's style is warm and collaborative. She sees each client as the expert on their own life, takes time to understand their perspective and strengths, and then works with them to figure out what's getting in the way.

Her main approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which looks at how thoughts, feelings and actions feed into each other. She trained in CBT through the Feeling Good Institute and also draws on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills for handling intense emotions. Clients leave sessions with strategies they can use in everyday life.

Brooke is also a certified PEERSĀ® provider, a structured social skills program developed at UCLA for teens and young adults.

She uses PEERS with autistic clients and with anyone who finds it hard to make or keep friends.

A note for parents

Parents are often the first to notice something is off, and the ones who make the first call. Brooke's years in schools mean she understands how anxiety, ADHD and social struggles show up in a teen's day.

In a free 20-minute consult, you can talk with Brooke about what your teen is going through and how you'd like to be involved. Learn more about our youth counselling.
