Our Mission
Help You Build a Calmer Mind, a Stronger Self &
a Life That Feels Like Yours Again
What Is IFS Therapy?
A gentle, parts-based approach to healing trauma, conflict, and emotional overwhelm
Internal Family Systems, often called IFS or parts work, is a therapy approach that helps you understand the different parts of yourself. Some parts protect you. Some carry pain. Some react quickly in relationships. IFS helps you meet these parts with curiosity instead of shame.
Rather than trying to fight or suppress what you feel, IFS helps you build a steadier inner relationship so healing can happen from the inside out. This can be powerful for both individual therapy and couples therapy.
Sessions are available in-person in Victoria, BC or virtually anywhere in Canada.
What IFS Can Help With:
Trauma & attachment wounds
Understand the protective patterns that formed around pain, fear, or past experiences.
Inner criticism & shame
Meet harsh or perfectionistic parts with compassion so they no longer run the show.
Anxiety & emotional flooding
Work with the parts that worry, brace, overthink, or shut down under stress.
Relationship conflict
See what gets activated between partners and create more space for repair and connection.
Is IFS Right For You?
You don’t need to keep fighting yourself to feel better
IFS therapy can be especially helpful if part of you wants change, while another part feels scared, stuck, numb, angry, or overwhelmed. That inner conflict is not failure. It is often a sign that protective parts are trying to help in the only ways they know.
You feel torn between different parts of yourself and want more inner clarity.
You keep repeating relationship patterns even when you want something different.
You struggle with anxiety, shutdown, people-pleasing, or emotional reactivity.
You want trauma therapy that feels compassionate, not forceful or shaming.
You and your partner want to understand what gets triggered beneath the conflict.
You’re looking for a deeper, more healing approach than advice alone.
Individual & Couples IFS Therapy
Support for your inner world and your relationship patterns
We offer Internal Family Systems therapy for both individuals and couples. Whether you are working through trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, or recurring conflict in your relationship, IFS helps uncover what is happening beneath the surface.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBT
-
IFS is a therapy approach built on the idea that the mind is made up of different "parts," each with its own role, feelings, and way of protecting you. Some parts carry old pain, others work hard to keep that pain out of view. IFS helps you build a curious, compassionate relationship with these parts instead of fighting them, so change can happen without shame or force.
-
CBT focuses on changing thought patterns and behaviours. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess specific traumatic memories. IFS works differently: it treats the mind as a system of parts and focuses on understanding and unburdening those parts directly. Many clients combine approaches, and your counsellor can help you figure out which fits your situation, or whether a blend makes sense.
-
Yes. IFS was developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz and has a growing body of research behind it, including studies on trauma, PTSD, and chronic health conditions where emotional patterns play a role. It's increasingly used alongside more established modalities like CBT and EMDR rather than as a replacement for them.
-
This varies more than with structured approaches like CBT, since IFS follows the pace of your internal system rather than a fixed protocol. Some people notice shifts within a handful of sessions; deeper trauma or long-standing patterns usually take longer. Your counsellor will check in with you regularly about progress and pacing.
-
Yes. We offer secure virtual IFS sessions for clients anywhere in BC, alongside in-person sessions in Victoria and the Cowichan Valley. Parts work translates well to video, since most of the process is internal reflection guided by your therapist rather than anything that requires being in the room together.
-
Sessions with our Master's-level intern counsellors start at $35 (after a free first session). Counsellors awaiting registration are $100, and licensed therapists range from $150–$170 per 50-minute session. We now offer direct billing to most major extended health plans, including Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, and Canada Life, so many clients pay little or nothing out of pocket at time of service.
