Mischa Greig [she.her], MA, RCC

My Approach

My approach is collaborative, experiential, embodied, & founded on the understanding that the client is the expert of their life. My role is to facilitate greater self-inquiry & deeper self-knowing. I aim to help folks deconstruct any stories that presume inadequacy while promoting self-determination in the therapeutic space. I am committed to reflections of oppression & its impacts & stay critical to how these commonly get misconstrued in the western colonial framework of psychology.

I seek to cultivate a space that holds curiosity for human complexities, honours nuances & discrepancies, & supports shifts in the stories that do not serve us – never or no longer. I aim to support clients in developing greater feelings of congruence, harmony, & integrity. I approach my practice with gentleness & curiosity.

I believe therapeutic space is sacred & recognize the immense vulnerability in showing up & sharing.

Currently accepting new virtual & in office clients.

My Story

I am a white cis-gendered settler of German, Scottish & Irish ancestry, residing on traditional lək̓ʷəŋən territory of the Songhees, WSÁNEĆ, & Esquimalt First Nations, known colonially as Victoria.

I was always drawn to this career path, but my route was perhaps circuitous. I join my past experiences, personal & professional, seeing the ways they inform how I show up in the therapeutic space. As an artist & creative, I draw on the power of imagination & wonder, & through my background in Anthropology & Sociology, I carry a critical practice lens, attentive to dominant narratives that exclude or oppress bodies or make them feel small. Through a decade of experience in care & support work, I have grown an appreciation for non-verbal expression, recognizing the limitations of verbal language.

My own experience with unfitting therapeutic support has shown me how feelings of disconnect can promote further withdrawal. On the other end, experiences with a better therapeutic fit remind me of the miracles that therapy can provide in supporting increased self-and body-awareness, deeper self-compassion, & enhanced abilities for greater regulation. My experiences have helped me to understand how connection can facilitate a felt sense of safety, expansive self-inquiry, & transformation in one’s healing journey. Together, these experiential processes inform me as a counsellor.
