FAQs & Intentions Behind “Somatic Parts Work: Cultivating Radical Self-Compassion”
Have you ever felt like different parts of you are pulling in opposite directions, like one part wants to rest, another pushes you to achieve more, and yet another quietly holds pain you’ve barely begun to understand? If so, you’re not alone, and there’s a space being created just for you.
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing that recognizes the deep connection between the body and mind. It focuses on how physical sensations, movement, and embodied awareness can help us process emotions, release stored trauma, and regulate our nervous systems. Rather than relying solely on our experiences, somatic therapy helps us feel and shift them through the body, bringing us into a deeper relationship with ourselves and our internal wisdom.
What is Parts Work?
Parts work is a therapeutic approach rooted in the idea that our psyche is made up of many different “parts”, each with its own voice, story, and role in our lives. Some parts protect us, some hold pain, and others guide us toward growth. This group draws inspiration from Internal Family Systems (IFS), a well-established model that helps people explore and heal their inner worlds by building relationships with these parts from a compassionate, curious perspective.
By integrating parts work with somatic therapy, we can explore not only what each part believes or says, but how it feels in our bodies, creating more space for transformation, trust, and self-acceptance.
What is “Somatic Parts Work”?
This four-week group, hosted by Strength in Heart Counselling, is an invitation to explore the many layers and parts that live within us. Through guided conversations and experiential activities, we’ll work to deepen self-understanding and cultivate radical self-compassion. This isn’t about “fixing” ourselves. Instead, we’ll learn to honor the complexity and wisdom of our internal world, making space for balance in mind, body, and spirit.
Who is this group for?
Anyone curious about personal growth, emotional healing, and embodied self-awareness is welcome. This group is especially supportive for those navigating inner conflict or emotional overwhelm. This will also be beneficial for folks feeling called to connect more deeply with themselves in a gentle, affirming way.
Who’s facilitating?
The group will be guided by Kendra Shaw and Brooke Fry, master’s level social work students in the final stages of their graduate education. They bring warmth, insight, and a strong commitment to compassionate, client-centered practice.
When & where is it happening?
Sessions take place in person at Strength in Heart Counselling (1183 Fort St, Victoria, BC) on Tuesday evenings from 6–8 pm, running from July 8th to July 29th, 2025.
